{Thank you!} Boulder Portrait Photographer
May 22, 2011Dear Melissa,
You have no idea how much I love all the beautiful hand knit things you create for me to use with my sweet newborns and babies. I am having a hard time getting over the fact that everything you knit for me in the last year-gorgeous fur lined cocoons, teddy bear newborn hats, hats with bright stripes and fluffy pom poms, pouches that babies can swing from, baby hammocks-everything, was stolen from my house last week. I think it may take me awhile to mourn the loss of your beautiful artwork.
I could not believe it when I opened your last package for me. The sweetest cocoons, felt hearts sewn into baby hat earflaps (so heartfelt!), stars that must have taken so long to knit, fleece earflaps to keep baby’s ears warm, a hat that-wait for it, it is so amazing…has a pocket for CRAYONS for a child. And my favorite-the most gorgeous baby hat with mirrors sewn in and SO many little details. Really? You are SUCH an amazing knitter, I will keep these all safe and treasure them!
Here are a few photos of Kaegan, I can not wait to do 1 year photos of him. It seems like yesterday I was taking his newborn photos. And a year now. wow.
Thank you for coming to Adam’s 35th birthday party, too. It was so good to see you, and I wish I had had more than just 2 minutes to photograph Kaegan. I was WAY too distracted by all the food I needed to get out, and the 40 people I had not seen for awhile and had to catch up with to actaully sit down with you. If I was more laid back, and had the foresight to hire a caterer for the event (what was I thinking???), then I would have sat down with you and looked at all the beautiful things you made for me!
So let’s all send some good energy to the people that stole my beautiful vintage, red Amelia Earhart suitcase (my daughter’s name is Amelia and I found it when I was pregnant with her!) with every single newborn photography prop I have collected over the years. Yes, so, so sad. Why did they take the beanbag, too? Really, you are going to steal a baby pink beanbag? But they left the piece of black fabric I use for those newborn womb-like photos I do. Thanks so much. That was great. It will be super easy to replace the thousands of dollars worth of beautifully hand knit, totally unique baby hats and cocoons I have collected over the years, but that piece of $10 black fleece? I needed that.
I did my best newborn session to date today. Baby was super sleepy and peaceful the whole time. I got to use both cocoons you knitted for me this week, as well as a few hats. The colors and light were just beautiful. Photos will be blogged soon:)
So Melissa-thanks for everything you have created for me, I can’t tell you how much I treasure it all, and I am so glad we crossed paths a year ago and get the honor of capturing Kaegan in photographs as he grows!
xoxo stacey

Dear Stacey,
Besides I was feeling a bit tired and wonky myself, that always makes socializing challenging! I had fun watching Kaegan… I thought he would get a kick out of the other kids, but really he was fascinated with the lilac bushes! Who knew?
You are so sweet. Thank you for your kind words and for the opportunity to make such fun little things for so many people’s treasured memories. I still tear up when I look at Kaegan’s 2 week and 6 month photos. You are an amazingly talented woman and I am proud to be a part of the art you create. I feel horrible that you had your props stolen, I can see how much they meant to you and I am honored that I can help you out by replacing them.
Please, don’t worry about the party, I realize you were a busy hostess.
Hugs, Melissa

So great that you were able to get some new props… I don’t know what I would do if my newborn stuff was stolen! It took a long time to build up as much stuff as I have!!
