Wonderful day. Bolder Boulder, Boulder Creek Fest, hanging out with the kids while adam was away at his conference in Denver. Big bbq with kids’ parade, face painting, etc… in my own lovely neighborhood. Super windy Boulder day, but all worked out just fine. So, one newborn photo for tonight, as I have been alone with the kids ALL weekend and adam is giving them a bath and then I will be ON duty again way too soon. Sigh. Amelia is teething. Do you know that feeling when they just want to be ON your body all day long, when they want to devour you? Come on, moms, lets be real. It is great being a mom, and we HAVE to say that out loud, but when that baby is digging in to you with her fingernails and trying to crawl up you to be back inside you, you just want to scream, right? It is not just me?

Hard to say when I am looking at this beautiful newborn photo. I have been with newborns all week. In Boulder, Lafayette, Denver, Erie. I have NEVER photographed so many newborns in such a short period of time. I LOVE it! Makes me want to have another. So bad. Until…Amelia starts teething and wants to crawl back inside me and won’t stop screaming. But, this is really, truly what being a parent is-wanting it, and not wanting it sometimes. Just have to say it out loud. It is what it is:)

Bolder Boulder photos to come soon…

Finally, it is beautiful again in Boulder! I am so HAPPY! I just got back from a mini portrait photography session that I have had to reschedule at least 5 times in the last month because Boulder had such a gray and rainy May. But here we are, and I am excited that everything is so green now. Wonderland Lake in north Boulder looks SO different now. It has been so yellow and brown in all the photographs I have taken there the last few months, and this morning everything was green-the foothills, the grass, the trees. I love the change in colors.

This was one of my mini photography sessions in San Francisco. Well, this one was actually in Menlow Park, just outside of San Francisco. I have to say, I don’t think ANY of us walked away from this mini session thinking that we got good photos. The kids were so sweet, but super interested in running around and doing what they want to do. But, when I got home and looked at all the images, they were gorgeous! It was just one of those photo shoots where I worked really hard chasing the children around, snapping away, and that hard work really paid off. I know mom wanted just one photo of the the two kids together, and we got it! So sweet. And look at what a diva Sofia is.

I am happy about this weekend. I have so much planned for the kids. We barbecued last night with friends and then we have a big community BBQ and parade on Monday. I love, love, love the Boulder Creek Festival, too. There is always great music, performances, art. We will be heading down there tomorrow and Monday. Adam is doing a conference in Denver all weekend so it is just the kids and I again. Who is doing the Bolder Boulder? I would love to say I am, but I just can not run. My pregnancies just did my hips in. Yes, I am only 31.  But we will be going to watch the Bolder Boulder, so we may see you there!

Well, technically that hat is from the Australian outback, so I wouldn’t say cowboy. What is the word then…? I just can not remember, but DO think of Crocodile Dundee and being a little kid and walking around saying “THAT’S not a knife, THIS is a knife,” and thinking I was so cool. Who here is just that same age?

Anyways, super cute session from over a month ago! It was one of my spring mini photography sessions (I still have a lot of those to blog, sorry guys!) at Wonderland Lake in north Boulder. Dad was supposed to be away for this shoot (in Australia), but because of all the rescheduling because of the icky Boulder weather last month, he was able to make it.  More to come, it is Elijah’s last day of school so I have a picnic and then I get to photograph another newborn!

Such a sweet sessions with the best boys! A beautiful night, and some cute kids. I just love that first photo-my brothers used to be just like this. I grew up in a big family (I am the youngest of five) and my brothers were very sweet to me…as they tortured me. I would love to have another boy just so Elijah could have a little brother. Anyways, love that the sweet, little one is sitting there just daydreaming, while the biggest brother is messing with the middle one. Anyone from a family of 3+ knows how that goes…

So, super rainy Boulder days. The weather report for Boulder says it is going to clear up Thursday, and then it will be clear skies from then on. And 70 degrees, which is just perfect for photographing babies. We shall see. I still have 5 sessions from the last couple of weeks that need to be rescheduled because of the weather here.

Watch out, you about to get days and days and days worth of newborn blog posts! There was some kind of baby boom here in Boulder recently. I can’t keep up with it all. I photographed the prettiest little baby this morning. It was gray and yucky out but we got the most beautiful images still! Holding all these newborn babies is seriously making me want another one. Not that that is new-I am sure I am always talking about our “next one,” you know-the one my husband says “No Way!” to. We shall see…A psyhic told me I would get pregnant with spring. Let’s hope she is good!

More tomorrow if I can get things together and post. Elijah’s school is over Thursday, and I have two shoots that day, one Friday, and one Saturday and my husband will be at a conference, and my nanny is going to Texas! Wish me luck figuring this one out…

Dear Melissa,

You have no idea how much I love all the beautiful hand knit things you create for me to use with my sweet newborns and babies. I am having a hard time getting over the fact that everything you knit for me in the last year-gorgeous fur lined cocoons, teddy bear newborn hats, hats with bright stripes and fluffy pom poms, pouches that babies can swing from, baby hammocks-everything, was stolen from my house last week. I think it may take me awhile to mourn the loss of your beautiful artwork.

I could not believe it when I opened your last package for me. The sweetest cocoons, felt hearts sewn into baby hat earflaps (so heartfelt!), stars that must have taken so long to knit, fleece earflaps to keep baby’s ears warm, a hat that-wait for it, it is so amazing…has a pocket for CRAYONS for a child. And my favorite-the most gorgeous baby hat with mirrors sewn in and SO many little details. Really? You are SUCH an amazing knitter, I will keep these all safe and treasure them!

Here are a few photos of Kaegan, I can not wait to do 1 year photos of him. It seems like yesterday I was taking his newborn photos. And a year now. wow.

Thank you for coming to Adam’s 35th birthday party, too. It was so good to see you, and I wish I had had more than just 2 minutes to photograph Kaegan. I was WAY too distracted by all the food I needed to get out, and the 40 people I had not seen for awhile and had to catch up with to actaully sit down with you. If I was more laid back, and had the foresight to hire a caterer for the event (what was I thinking???), then I would have sat down with you and looked at all the beautiful things you made for me!

So let’s all send some good energy to the people that stole my beautiful vintage, red Amelia Earhart suitcase (my daughter’s name is Amelia and I found it when I was pregnant with her!) with every single newborn photography prop I have collected over the years. Yes, so, so sad. Why did they take the beanbag, too? Really, you are going to steal a baby pink beanbag? But they left the piece of black fabric I use for those newborn womb-like photos I do. Thanks so much. That was great. It will be super easy to replace the thousands of dollars worth of beautifully hand knit, totally unique baby hats and cocoons I have collected over the years, but that piece of $10 black fleece? I needed that.

I did my best newborn session to date today. Baby was super sleepy and peaceful the whole time. I got to use both cocoons you knitted for me this week, as well as a few hats. The colors and light were just beautiful. Photos will be blogged soon:)

So Melissa-thanks for everything you have created for me, I can’t tell you how much I treasure it all, and I am so glad we crossed paths a year ago and get the honor of capturing Kaegan in photographs as he grows!

Since Boulder has been super cold and rainy all week, I have had to reschedule all my portrait sessions and am finally able to catch up on blogging and emails. Which is always a good thing, but trying to reschedule 6 photography sessions in one week is a job in and of itself.

Things are so very wonderful right now though! Let me tell you all about it:) We had our second Zulily sale-it started yesterday, for my other business (Karmababy.com), and in the first two hours we sold more slings than we did during the three day event two months ago. Which is fabulous news as I try to clear out 1000 slings of old inventory and get the business ready to sell (photography is my complete passion, I don’t want to do anything else!). So, if you want a beautiful, designer or organic baby sling for your little one, check it out-there is only one more day of the 50% off sale.

Reg, my new sales manager has had a super busy week (ya think-I have been shooting non-stop lately!). She ROCKS. She is so easy to talk to, knows what size prints would go well where and with what other prints, and is overall just making my business and life run so smoothly. I am actually kind of shocked. For those of you who have been reading my blog for years now, you know that I am always writing about how overwhelmed I am. Well, right now I am more booked than I have EVER been, and I am not stressed-not even one little bit. The last two years I have put so much work into streamlining my workflow and outsourcing what I don’t love to do, and it has totally paid off.

I have the beautiful client site (you only get to see this when you book:), that tells clients every single detail they need to know to prepare for their session. It has a beautiful product guide, session guide, what to wear page, stuff I love and where to buy it, and a wall display guide. It has really helped me to cut down on emails with every session. Before the client site, I would sometimes spend hours communicating with clients about how to prepare for the portraits.

I have Kellie, my office manager extraordinaire who has taken over order fulfillment and arranging for shipping/pickup/drop off of orders with clients. She also does my bookkeeping. Oh, and she basically runs all of Karma Baby on her own.

I have Heather, who helps occasionally with editing, and she is a super photoshop genius who can take 80lbs off of someone and it looks real. I am serious. She edited the amazingly awesome session below. No, no weight was edited off this mother. Yes, she is truly that beautiful, nothing was edited-edited, only color enhancements, etc… If you are curious, I think she used the new Florabella actions. Aren’t these photos GORGEOUS? Contact her if you are a photographer looking to get help with some of your editing work.

Now I have Reg, who does everything that has to do with ordering. She comes to your home to help you look at what would work best, and shows you samples, takes your order, and sends it off to Kellie. Seriously, before Reg, I would sometimes exchange 15 emails with Kellie and a client before we worked out how to pay and where to pick up. Reg makes everything simple and easy, and then prints and canvases can get to my clients so much sooner.

Let’s see…what else have I done to make it so that I am wonderfully relaxed and happy? House cleaners. A must for me with a husband and two little kids. Once a week or else the house goes downhill. Heidi, my amazing nanny, who is like a second mommy to Amelia (what are we going to do when she moves in the fall??!). Living in cohousing, which has made it so that I always have someone to watch my kids in a bind, always a grown up to talk to, and so many children for my kids to play with. And meals a few times a week all together. So perfect.

So yes, things have come a long way in the last year. I was so, so very stressed out all the time before, and now I am happy and totally supported by all the wonderful woman who play such major (and minor) roles in my life. Life is good.

This is Emerson. You may remember his newborn portraits I did last year. He looks so much the same! But I always say that when the baby is still fairly bald at a year (like my Amelia). Stunning eyes, beautiful mama, a gorgeous little family. If I could post every single image from this photography session, I would. We started at their house in Boulder, which has the quintessential white porch swing and old, lovable dog, and then we headed over to Wonderland lake in north Boulder to do some outdoor portraits. The night was perfect (this was mother’s day, btw, which was one of the nicest days of the year so far), and Emerson was happy. One of my favorite sessions to date!

More in the days to come. I am about three to four weeks behind on blogging (from old Boulder photo sessions as well as the San Francisco ones), and will *try* to catch up.

Because even on those rainy days in Boulder, life is still so sweet. Elijah and I had our “mommy and me” day. We spent two hours at the craft store, went and saw “African Cats,” and then did crafts all afternoon (think butterflies, wooden stick houses, and lots of pipe cleaners taped to all the surfaces in our house). We spent the rest of this rainy afternoon decluttering (yay!) and now, we are, sigh, trying to save our food because our fridge broke:( So here I go, off to do that. Many, many more posts this week! Cute baby tush post on a day like this is perfect, dontcha think?

I am spending this BEAUTIFUL Boulder evening relaxing outside in my cohousing common lawn, bbqing, watching 20 children run around laughing, and enjoying the warm sun, drinking a beer (me, that is-not the kids).  A perfect day.

I am having one of those super-busy days that I have sometimes today, so no real time to blog. I am actually trying to get work finished up here so that I can go see a movie with my honey here in a bit. Perfect thing to do on one of those rainy Boulder days. Water for Elephants, or Thor? Which do you think Adam will choose?

So just a couple of the cutest little girl ever! Look at all that personality! More to come…
