Such a perfect little baby. Normally, I need to do newborn photos before two weeks of age to get those squishy, sleepy photos, but Aviva was such a dream for us. She was awake just long enough to get some stunning shots of her eyes, and then she fell asleep for the rest of the session. We did her session outside at Wonderland Lake since she was a little older and we figured she might be awake the whole time. Normally, newborn sessions are done in the baby’s  home so that 1) mom and baby can stay nesting in and resting like they should be, and 2) so that we can all relax and leave space to soothe, feed, change the baby, etc…  But even though we did this outside, it quickly became like any other newborn session. I broke out my bean bag, blankets, wraps, hats, and we got her into those sleepy poses out in the middle of a field. She was such a little trooper! Still, my favorite photos were of mom holding her-their connection was one of the sweetest and most genuine I have seen. Lucky girl.

What a beautiful family! They are from Australia, and wanted to get some photos done in Colorado while they were living here. We started off at Eben Fine Park on Arapahoe and 3rd, and let me tell you, Sunday night is NOT a good time to go shoot there. I have never seen any place so crowded before in Boulder, except of course the Pearl Street Mall. So, we took a few photos there and then headed over to Wonderland Lake-which, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful parks in Boulder. If you go at just the right time in the evening, the prairie will be lit up by the sun-it is breathtaking. It’s like taking a bath in pure light-which to my photographer’s eye is the most luxurious and calming thing I could think of doing.

Ruby is just 7 months and Max is 3 years. They were so sweet together! I really enjoyed photographing this family, and hope they stay long enough that I get to do Ruby’s 12 month photos too!

Voicemail still does not work-if you have called me recently please email me too at boulderbabyphotography@gmail.com.

How beautiful is she? Even at 6 weeks old, she was still a sleepy little angel for us. More to come, I just wanted to post one today! Also, my voicemail is simply not working. Please email me if you are trying to get in touch with me!

I have just been waiting to photograph this little girl again! She was the most perfect newborn, and she really is the most perfect 6 month old, doncha think? I loved reading the blog post I did for her newborn photos, I KNEW she would be so sweet, beautiful, and joyful at this age. She really is the sweetest baby. She just sat wherever we put her and smiled pretty for the camera every time. I am in love with every single photo of her.

Near the end of the shoot her mom told me she hoped we would get one of those good close up eye shots I always do. Are you kidding me? I got at least 50 good eye shots. I don’t even know what to do with all them! She is so gorgeous. But I had to go through and pick just the best. Which was hard, bc she really has so many expressions.  And check out the photo of her on mom’s lap-she is still doing that thing with her feet where she puts them in prayer. Love it.

And for all those photags out there that read my blog-that last pic was NOT taken with a wide angle lens. That is truly how big and deep her eyes are.

Can’t wait to see Gia again at 12 months! I bet her hair will be so much longer and she will have a ton of cute sass.

I just keep getting these amazingly beautiful 6 month olds! Those eyes! I can’t stand it. I have been sooo busy, shooting all weekend and I have two shoots tomorrow (newborn AND maternity!). So, the full sneak peak blog posts may have to wait a couple days. But I do always like to get at least one photo up right away. I am totally into instant gratification. And this baby is gorgeous. Such a beauty.  Here’s one from Ruby and Max’s shoot-more to come!

{Boulder Nurse Midwives}

August 15, 2010

As a doula, prenatal yoga instructor, and birth photographer, my life seems to always be filled with people from the Boulder birthing community. I have done several births with midwives from the Boulder Nurse Midwives office, and they are AWESOME. So patient, kind, loving, and they always respect their patients’ wishes and do whatever they can to help them have the birthing experience they want. Sweet Gia showed up in this t-shirt, so we got a quick photo at the beginning of her shoot in it. Isn’t she is the cutest thing you have ever seen? I want to blog EVERY SINGLE PHOTO from this session. You’ll see why when I post more later today. Now I am off to a pool party and then another baby shoot! So anyways, if you are looking for a gentle way to birth in a hospital, I would highly recommend this practice:)

Such a sweet, perfect little newborn baby girl.  Avery was one of those rare babies that was actually asleep when I got there and stayed asleep. Parents are always so surprised at how wakeful their newborns are during our session. The energy is just so different. Even though they are not on a schedule yet, most newborns tend to get into a rhythm with mom and dad and can really sense the excitement around the photo shoot, so they tend to stay awake a lot of the time. Avery was just a mellow little baby. Until the middle of the session, and then she seemed awfully confused at why we were moving her around so much and putting her into cocoons and wraps and why dad was holding her in such odd ways. Such a sweet little girl, I can’t wait to see what she looks like when she is just a little bigger!

More, more, more from the San Francisco sessions! I *think* this is the last one, but who knows? I thought the last one was the last one. I should post photos of my own family in San Francisco, too, but honestly, I was shooting other families nonstop and I am not sure I took anything good of my own kids. That is what happens when you have to lug around a big camera and different lenses. I am thinking about just getting a point and shoot for outings that are not work related. I would end up getting more of my kids, and I do want to document their childhoods in more that just portrait style pictures!  We did so many fun things in San Francisco-Fisherman’s Wharf, the Exploritorium, beaches, lots of Asian food (yum! you can’t get anything good here in Boulder), the children’s museum, etc… It was a ton of fun. I am going to go back in January or February to shoot again but I think this time I may just take my nanny and baby-it would be easier all around.

Anyways, look at this sweet baby! Sofia was the cutest little thing-don’t you love the tub, too? Maybe Sofia wasn’t the happiest baby in there, but it was too darn cute to pass up.  And Dylan was such a happy little boy and did so great in front of the camera. Loved them!

More from San Francisco! I can’t believe I am still putting up sneak peaks! But I almost totally caught up with everything, so that is good:) I LOVE this family. This is my perfect family-they came ready to have FUN. I honestly think dad burped the whole time just to get the boys to laugh-and it worked. What else are you supposed to do with three boys? I also engaged in lots o’ burping. The whole thing was a good time, I was sad it was just a mini session. And I love their outfits from miniboden.com! So full of life. Like them.

Yay for today! Even with five shoots this week I had today off  just to catch up on office work and I am actually making headway! I have gotten so behind with our move. But Kellie, my office manager, is finally back from England and she will be sending out all print and cd orders tomorrow! Yay! It is such a relief to finally be moved in (even though we are still living out of boxes). I have my computer set up, I found my camera, and I know where all my props are! I almost had to rent a camera last week for Max’s newborn shoot bc I could not find mine in this mess. But, things are finally coming together. And we moved to this co housing community so that I could get more support and so that we could live a more simple life-and I can already tell it is going to be just as we hoped. With things settling down, and Kellie getting back to all the office work, everything should be moving more smoothly now. I am still having voice mail issues though, so the best way to reach me right now is to email me. Boulderbabyphotography@gmail.com TONS and TONS of photos to be blogged here soon. Here are just a few of sweet Novi’s second session at Rancho San Antonio in California.
