So by the calm, happy, bright look of things we had a wonderful, easy session. Wrong. It was so windy, I honestly thought for a while that the wind had blown over their heavy stroller (it was actually their new cute little dog that was the culprit-but it was THAT windy).

As soon as we arrived at the lake in Boulder, a huge storm-looking cloud rolled in over the sky that was just moments before sunny and beautiful, and I did not feel comfortable setting a 1 year old down in that wind. I really think it could have knocked her over.  And the balloons were a perfect idea for such a windy day, right?  Anyways, we quickly decided that we would postpone the session-it was not worth putting Camille in danger!   But, we did park her in front of a little house (for protection) very quickly to get a few shots with the balloons since we had them. So, check back in a few days for more photos of Camille!

I am lucky in so many ways. I took the weekend “off” and just hung out with my family doing nothing, watching basketball, playing, going for walks, blowing bubbles, reading books, bbqing-it was so nice. I get so busy so quickly these days that I forget so often to just sit still and enjoy what I DO Have. I mean, look at these kids, are they not the sweetest little beings you ever saw? Elijah has never once been frustrated or upset with Amelia. He has never resented her for taking SO much attention away from him her first 6 months of life bc she was so colicky. He just plays with her, loves her, entertains her, and is just as sweet when she starts screaming or crying over something. 4 1/2 years was a good separation between the two, although now, at 30, I think if I want more I should just do it sooner rather than later-it takes so much energy to have more than one child and I already get so worn out! Anyways, here are some shots from the weekend and of my sweet family.

Oh, and the best part-I can’t believe I almost forgot. We got to go on an actual DATE. It was fabulous. We dropped Elijah and Amelia off at a friend’s house in Lafayette, and wanted to stay close in case the baby was fussy, so we tried Kasbah, and it was fabulous (we rocked it;). I have never had Moroccan food before, and it was delicious-spicy and full of flavor. There were also some belly dancers, and the whole night was really entertaining. Anyhoo, that was my great weekend.

Oh, and if you all did not know and were curious about that fabulous baby sling my husband is wearing, that is my design! After Elijah was born I created a sling and now it is made in designer and organic maternials. You can see them at Karmababy.com or put one on your registry at Target.com. I will also be doing another shoot in a few weeks for Karma Baby and will be needing models, so if you want a free sling and some cute photos, send me an email at boulderbabyphotography@gmail.com

Love, love, love this family! Love Quincy, love how much her parents love her-just everything. I hit it off immediately with this family. When Q’s mama first wrote me, she told me about how special their home was because that is where they gave birth to their daughter. I also had homebirths with both of my babies, and they were both incredible. I walked into their home and still felt that new-baby peace.  I also just love how much personality Quincy has. She is so vibrant, and yet still so little. Such a sweetheart. And I am SO happy that we got some of those sweet, squishy newborn type photos of her-that never happens at three months but this time it worked out perfectly!

Isn’t he just the sweetest little thing? I just am in love with those eyes! And he has the sweetest little lower lip that sticks out when he is sad:). Love.

Well, I have only been waiting since Saturday, when we did this family session, but that is a long time to wait to see what our first go at a HD video photography session is like. And it is AWESOME!  I have been waiting for the weather to turn so that I could do an outdoor session and include the video, and I grabbed the first really warm day.  Devon Walton, a fabulous Boulder music videographer, created this beautiful, magical movie, and I am so happy to share it with you guys! We will be offering these during my sessions now, so if you are interested please email me at boulderbabyphotography@gmail.com or through my website.

To see more photos of this session check out this blog post. Thanks and I hope you all love it as much as I do!

Marisa & Ana from Devon M. Walton on Vimeo.

Filmed in Boulder, CO on 13 March 2010.

Don’t you love the song, too? I just discovered The Submarines, and I am in love with their music. This song was just perfect for this shoot. So full of joy and happiness, I can’t help but smile and skip a little when I hear this song, and that is exactly what Marisa was doing during the entire session. Perfect.

Shawn and Emily

March 17, 2010

I *loved* shooting Shawn and Emily. Shawn is such a good friend from long ago-high school, and I have not seen him in about 7 years. He is one of those friends you know you will always connect with and love. I was so happy to meet his beautiful wife and do a few photos for them. Thanks for taking the time to come visit, Shawn, it was so wonderful to see you again!

SPRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was my first outdoor-playing-around-in-the-fresh-air session of the year. I have definitely taken people outside this winter during studio shoots but I NEED to get outside in the nice spring air-  nothing is like photographing people in beautiful spots all around Boulder like the one in the photos above. Which then reminded me that a lot of you have been getting on me about posting my spring mini photography sessions, so here they are!

I have timed them this year so that the photos will be ready for mother’s day. So, forward this to your husband, as a not-too-subtle hint, or sign up yourself as the prints will be the perfect gift for you own mother (or just for yourself!).

These slots tend to go quickly, so if you are interested try to sign up in the next week or so. Session fee is due in full at booking. Once I receive the session fee I will sign you up for one of your chosen time slots. Email me at boulderbabyphotography@gmail.com and I can send you all the info.

I can not wait to do these sessions! Yay for spring!!!!

I have been lucky enough to volunteer my time this year for Boulder County AIDS Project. Seriously, could I have more fun than photographing a bunch of guys in drag? They really do know how to have a good time and get into the role. And I wish I looked as good as they do! Look at their legs! I know, totally appropriate for my baby and child photography blog, right? But, they look FABULOUS, and I did the first shoot when I was 9 months pregnant and then the second one post partum, so I was having a bit of envy:)

This first poster was for their annual drag show back in August. This second poster is for the Big Top show on April 3rd. The info is below. Don’t miss it, it will be a blast!

I really do think I have one of the best jobs in the world. I would love to be in Cirque du Soleil, train dolphins, or be a midwife, but photographing children is definitely up there on the list, don’t you think? Basically, I get to chat with other moms, go hike in the mountains, and skip, fly, pretend I am a fairy, dance, laugh, giggle, sing, and have an all out REALLY good time.

So, this session was for the beautiful Marisa, the love of my son’s life. Seriously, wouldn’t you be in love with her too? She is so bright, cheery, happy, loving, smart beyond all reason.  Why wouldn’t my 5 year old son talk about her CONSTANTLY?  And with that missing tooth? Come on. Too cute. We had about a half hour of sunlight and did everything else in near dark. I am just glad that spring is finally here. I can not wait to get outside more and take photos like a mad woman. It really is what makes me happy.

We are also adding HD video to my shoots, yay! I would love to have a video of a session with my children. It is like a moving photograph-so beautiful. I can not wait to show you guys the video of this session. Coming soon….

Vegas with two babies

March 12, 2010

Okay, seriously? Does my family make cute babies or what? I am oh-so-lucky to have a mother and a sister willing to fly out to Las Vegas for me just to take care of my baby while I attend a photography conference. And we are not talking about any baby here. Yes, she looks sweet, but man is she a fussy one! People laugh because she is so smiley and moves around ALL THE TIME out in public, but really, at home, she is quite the handful. She also just cut her first real tooth, and I am sure that hurts. Overall, though, I go a little crazy at home and I am her mother! I know my sister must have had a hard time with her, but she laughed and had such a good time the whole time. I wish I was so laid back.
So, I was attending lectures all day by brilliant photographers, and my sister and mother somehow managed to handle a very busy one year old and my own very fussy 6 month old. Thanks guys, I could not have done any of it without you. At least we got some really sweet photos of them at this age.
